i see alot of shortboards at my break kick while paddling to catch a wave. Does this really help? seems if anything it would just cause drag.

I think its more of a menal thing than much of a benefit.
I used to bodyboard so kicking came natuarly

its pretty mental but i think it gives a little extra push when keeping up with a fast wave. I almost always do it unless I'm already deep.

hmmm i never really thought about it being a mental thing...i almost always do it on my SB. kicking when swimming long distances is totally different then kicking in this instance...you want a short, explosive burst of power to catch a wave. a strong kick and 3-4 hard paddle strokes will give you that burst to catch the wave. kicking definitely provides some forward propulsion if you are doing it at the right time...it probably doesn't matter as much on a late drop in..but if you can see a nice wave coming and you know you might be a little too far out it definitely helps IMO.

yeah idk. it probably cant hurt. i mean for swim practice, they used kcik boards where kicking is the main propulsion. i do it anyway.

lol i used to kick wen i had my 6'2, but when i started longboarding i kept on forgetting and i ended up kicking my board wich realy hurts. ohnistly i think it helps alittle, but not dramaticly, and its definatly a mental thing aswell.

i kinda noticed that it helps in thrusting myself and the board forward just slightly enough to get on a wave that i might not have gotten if i didn't kick.
