alright right now i ride a JS 6' 8" x 19 1/2 x 2 1/2 squash tail with slight rocker and no name fins. I was trying my buddys rusty 6' 2" today and it felt awesome, but im a little to big for it at 168 pounds, 6 foot 3. I liked it though because it was so thin, and i could move around on the wave great and it wasnt a hassle to get out on. My question now is whether i should get maybe a 6' 3" to 6' 6" or just keep the board i have now. the board i have now is good for catching most waves but its real hard to get any radical turns on the wave, which could be because of its size, my crappness, or the fact that it has crappy fins. should i get a new board or new fins?

If you thought your buddy's board was awesome, then get something similar.
As for the size...only you are going to really know what's best based on how you felt about the one you rode.
You said you felt you were a little to big for it. Big how? There are a few different options you can take. Make it a little thick or wider or longer or a combination.
Can you describe what it was that didn't feel right?

it felt like i was sinking as i was moving down the wave, and a little bit shakey. tomorrow im gonna demo a 6 foot walden super fish, its really wide and thick and looks fun.

If you like it thin than I would look into a thinner board, but if you were sinkin and shakin then i would say something like 6' 4" I would atleast get something equal to my height but then again its all what you like bro, my board is 18 1/4 inches wide, thats pretty thin i suppose and I like it way more than some of my friends boards that are like 19 1/2 - 20 also beacuse they complain when they straddle their boards its so wide that they get rashes on their thighs....I dont got any problems with that

You might try something around 6'3" and little wider (for stability) and a touch thicker (for float) than you buddies.
