Okay well im 14years old, weight 53kg and am about 5ft3 tall and i surf at rest bay every weekend theres waves and on holiday around the UK. I have been surfing for 2.5years on a 7ft3. Im really bored of it and i want to get a shorter more challenging board.
I emailed one guy and he told me to get a 6ft8 with plenty of volume...but im thinking that I want to go a bit shorter, because Im not expecting to able to ride it straight away or anything.
Ive seen a 6ft2x19 1/4x2 1/4 JP board, which I really like. Its second hand but in very good condition and costs £175. I was wondering if this sounded good for me...or would I be better getting a 6ft8 like that other guy told me.

Thanks for your help guys. :D

I am not sure what your waves are like but that drop in the board will leave you some learining curve but do able. If it was me I would go for the 6'2" that is assuming you can drive the line do some turns up and down the wave.

thats a big jump down in size, but your small so you might be ok depending on your standard. I would definatly say tho dont go for a 6-8 with lots of volume if your bored on your 7-3, youll get bored of it too. Boards like the one hes recommending are usually aimed at heavier guys and with your weight you wont be able to do as much on it, when you could be on a smaller lighter board which you can throw about a bit more.

Why not head down to JPs shop in mumbles, they let you take boards for test drives, you could try some out. the thing with changing down in size is youll find it harder to paddle and catch waves, but if your balance is good from 2.5 yrs surfing youll be fine once your up on it, just takes a little getting used to.

Ive just dropped from a 7'4 chunky / heavy thruster to a 6'8 thats weighs nothing. Didnt find the transition all that hard but then 2.5 years in your case may be harder as you would be so accustomed to that size :?

I'd go with the 6.2

I'm wondering why anyone wood tell you, you needed a board with a lot of volume? At your size I think the board you described wood be perfect.

I'd go for the 6'2'' aswell, at 19 1/4 and 2 1/4 its got a bit of volume and width to it and the lengths fine too.

But like Gower Charger says see if you can get out and try something similar first.

yah, a 6'2" wouldnt be a bad choice..or u could go with a 6'0", maybe a little bit wider and thicker..goodluck!

Its gonna feel way looser those first couple of rides. I cant wait to ride my 5'11" lol gonna feel like my board was soaked in oil when I try it out.
