Is a 7' 2" All merrick board with shape features of a shortboard actually in the class of a shortboard.

Yep... Depending on width and thickness it just might be a bigger guy's shorty.

I was always led to believe that a shortboard is under 6'6"

But 'flyer' or whatever is just a type of shortboard

There's no size limit - oh, okay, I s'pose there is, but its more like 7ft (a big board, for a big guy, obviously)

So a 7'2 might be a BIG shortboard, or a funboard.

what about that massive board they made for that world record. shortboard shape, but really really massive...still a 'shortboard'?

"Technically" a shortboard is considered to max out around 7', opinions differ about where for exactly this reason.

My response was based on SnowPyro's original post stating that it has the shap features of a shortboard. So I assumed that it was a typical thruster or flyer shape. So a 7'2" in that shape makes for good shortboarding if you are 6'6".
