yo guys, im getting a new board and i know a guy who is a professional shaper, so i have a chance to customize my first board. I am 5'9" about 170 and live on the East Coast. Any suggestions for rail demensions and board widths and rockers?

your best bet is chat it over with your shaper to get an ideal specification for your size/stlyle

In my opinion you have two very good options. Try and get a rocket/retro type of fish (5'10'' to 6'0''). Something wide and thick which makes it easier to get into the mix with. Your other option would be a basic squash-tail, anywhere from 6'0'' to 6'3''. Get a fish if you constantly find yourself in the smaller surf. The high performance squash tail is nice but a little more difficult to work with when the waves are below par. I personally love my WRV Slayer 6'0 squash just because I have been riding squash tail all of my life, and even learned on one. Another nice thing to have for an east coast board is a lot of rocker. I would definitely talk to the shaper though, since you have the opportunity.

East coast of where?
How good's your surfing, what kind of wave's are they on the east coast of?? What style of board do you want or like or have had experience of riding before???
As i salute you said you need to discuss these with your shaper or if you give us a better idea then maybe we can assist.
