What size board should I get?

Hi,

I've surfed long boards before but I haven't tried a short board yet. I'm 5 feet 10 inches tall and weigh around 220. From what I understand, long boards are easier to surf and short boards are harder.

I don't like surfing long boards because they're huge and the waves are usually crowded and I think it's hard to maneuver around all the people. I'm looking for a board that's more manageable. I'm also interested in trying a short board.

I'm thinking of getting a soft top, but I'm not sure which size or style to start off with. Off the top of my head, I was thinking I should go with a soft top 9 foot 6 inch board, but I'd like to go even smaller.

I'm just wondering if there are other surfers who weigh on the heavier side and surf short boards. Can you guys point them out to me? If I got a regular board instead of a soft top, what should it be?

Thanks.

im 6ft3 and about your weight, i surf a 6-10 with a bit more thickness than a usual thruster, but you might want sometihng bigger if your not used to shortboards. Have a look at funboards in the 7ft+ range to give you a bit more manouverability without being too twitchy.
