Seeing as this is a surfing forum I'm going to guess that most of your replies to the first question may be somewhat obvious.

As for injuries, hurtling down a mountain made of ice and rocks compared to waves, composed mostly of water.... well, go figure :D

Or to put it another way...
Hurtling down the face and then several tons of water smashing you down onto the reef, then holding you down for a couple of minutes

Water is soft, but heavy...

Personal experience...

Snowboarding -> broken bones, concussion, heavy bruising, torn ligaments

surfing -> fin chops, inhaling about 10L sea water, bruises, various cuts and grazes from rocks and reefs

Hmmm, maybe ive just been lucky surfing so far, but ive damaged myself worse snowboarding, and no its not because im unco!!! :D

In regards to my preference, well the snow is about 10 hours away and only available 3 months of the year, the surf is about 40 minutes and is there all year round!!

i think neither one is better than the other one..and if you know your limitations, injuries are often avoided

Never done boarding but reckon it must be easier than surfing cos otherwise how can any muppet go on their anual 1 week boarding holiday and get proficient? Try that sort of frequency with surfing and then see how far you progress!

HAH that's what my dad said....

I've snowboarded most of my life and him and my syblings have skiied, so when my syblings switched to boards he kept trying to give them advice, and finally tried it himself and spent thet whole day on his ass...

but if you also look at the technicality differences of them... shaun white won the olympics with backside 1080's, and we're just now getting into airs.

I go snowboarding every winter, and lat year my best friend broke her leg on the first day. The doc on the mountain said that they average a broken bone a day, mainly from snowboarders!! I dont think breaking bones is THAT common in surfing, although i know that it does happen.

and if you also think about progression, you can snowboard like 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, which is 56 hours of experience

you could surf for 8 hours a day, and you might only get a total of 10 minutes experience

and conditions are harder to get , so maybe only 4 days out of 7.

so that's 56 hours compared to 40 minutes to get better, if you only did it once every year...

I heard of three people dying on Australian slopes last year alone!!!!! They were all snowboarders. The snow can be dangerous, people can go off cliffs and get lost! Statistically a death can be expected for every 1.49 million visits to a ski area. Just google it and you will see that its a lot more common than you expect! Any sport can be dangerous, even lawn bowls!
