i did and it was hard some times and easy other times

i did on a really short, narrow, thin, 11 year old board
learning on that thing was quite difficult but you get there eventually

yeah i reackon ur bettr off learning to surf on a shortboard then a mal so u can learn to do tricks earlyer

I leart on a 6'7", but I wouldn't recommend it.
I don't agree with you regarding the trick learning part. You first need to get your speed and movement perfect before even thinking of starting to learn tricks...
A mal teaches you these things much quicker than a normal shortboard would.

No I learnt on a 7'2" popout, for about 2 weeks then used an 'average size' 6'4" thruster. Never had any probs but I was only 15, and got in the water most days.

I learnt to surf on a 6'8" and it was extreemily hard, but now it so easy on the board when i use it.

I'm new to all this but i have decided to start surfing on a shortboard. I have never surfed before, any pointers???

Pray to god, and hold your breath.
Cause you'll be under the water more so than on a wave!.

get a mini-mal to start off with..or your going to be frustrated...its a wonder i didnt drop surfing

i learnt to surf on a short board tell you sumin it woz bloody hard but you get use to it! best to learn on a mini-mal first!

I learn on a shortboard, cant comment on how hard it was... since its the only thing i knew/know
Took me about a week to stand up and surf in a "line" down the face

ive always ridden a shortboard, but then i started when i was small so it was big and floaty enough back then. problem with shortboards is beginners find it hard to paddle fast enough to catch waves, less waves = less practice = slower progress.
