Hmm, well im a surfer girl and I have never had any problems with the boys, in fact exactly the opposite. I go surfing with about 4 guys every weekend and they think its great that i get out there among the boys.

But i know of some girls who only go surfing (and not very well!) because they want to meet/pick up surfer guys, and that pis*es them off!

I love it when girls are in the line-up....especially if they're on a really wide board and wearing a nice little bikini....lovely! :D

I'm about to start learning to surf (wish me luck!!) and I was bit worried about what the guys thought about the girls being out there, but everytime I go down to the beaches and surf shops everyone seems really friendly, so I really wouldn't worry about the guys not liking it. Those who don't like it are probably just worried that you might be better than them!

Having a few ladies in the lineup is great. It means you get all the manly-menly-man surfers out there trying to show off and usually taking a mullering in the process.

On a more serious note, I've never come across anybody who has an issue with ladies surfing. It probably stems from feeling their masculinity is threatened if they're not as good as the lass.

Glad to see the grammar nazis have beaten me to it, I firmly believe in near fatal beatings for anyone who abuses our most beautiful of languages. That and it makes it a pain in the arse to read your posts :)

Good, so it's not just me who gets annoyed at that stuff.
Good grammar and attempting to spell correctly is a courtesy to your intended reader, post well and people will reply well :-)
save phonetic spelling for your cellphone or MSN.

I LOVE women in the water; growing up surfing in the 1970's and into the 80's it was all guys, young, angry and not very enjoyable sometimes, there was aggressive localism everywhere at the spots I surfed - I saw cars burned, people beaten, things stolen, windscreens waxed daily - you name it, surfing was almost like an underground anti-establishment activity done by people on the dole and dropouts. It really was. If any of you saw that stupid movie "Lords of Dogtown" (the money spinning rort that it was), well, the opening surfing scenes remind me of what it really was like surfing as a young boy back then. Well, where I lived anyway.

Nowdays, everyone is so much more tolerant - even though there is alot more people in the water, because there's a bigger mixture of the type of people surfing- higher volumed mini-mals have made surfing accessable to older and less fit people, weaker paddlers and those who surf less often. Whatever you choose to ride - it's ok now as well, fish, mals, retro - it's all good (well unless you're a filthy tea-bagger *joke ok*)
Women add so much more too, it's like the other half of our society is finally getting in on the fun. I wish there were more out there. I wish the ratio was 50/50. It'll come in time.

chick surfers tend to have heaps more respect for other surfers, not sure why (fear of the boys?) - but other than that i think its great, and really funny when the chicks get out back while some of the boys are still in the wash - always good to be demasculated, brings us back to reality.

it aint exactly an all boys sport, surfing-and as someone said-there are loads of female surfers better at surfing than men-

and i totally agree that some girls only get into the water with a board to look good?! whats the point!
you either die surfing or at least trying! (but not in a bikini-thats just asking for it?) but being blue in the lips and sitting on a board with a pair of boy binoculars on-aint a good look for some guys-maybe dats why some are against women surfers?!

i think its completely unfair-why should men judje us women for getting in the water with a board and wetsuit?

most guys are well up for it and like the competition- im all up for it!

Hey why hasn't anybody mentioned the fact that girls have been surfing from the very beginning? Women have been surfing with men from the time it started, so this crap about not liking women surfers is just that... crap.

Women, don't believe men who say you shouldn't be surfing! You were there from the start.

Men who believe women shouldn't be surfing - Envious?
