3-fin vs 4-fin

so i got my first board yesterday (yesss) and the guy at the shop talked me into buying a 4-fin board instead of the normal 3-fin thruster. the board is 6'8", 22.5", 2.75" ... what are the benefits and drawbacks of 4 fins opposed to 3 fins?
