Pyzel Gremlin Purchase ....

Postby joaquin386 » Thu Feb 03, 2022 10:55 pm

Hi Community

I need some advice cause I am thinking of getting a Pyzel Gremlin, so I am looking on advice on the sizing.
My Height: 6'0 Weight 185lbs. Have been surfing when at the Canary Islands 6 days a week (when there which is half the year) but when I am in the UK I do like one week a month. I consider myself Intermediate+

My quiver:
- Retro Fish (twin fin) 5'8" 20 5/8 - 2 3/8 - 35L which i truly enjoy a lot (Canary Islands)
- Pyzel Phantom 6'2" 20 3/8" - 2 11/16" - 35.9L for those bigger days (UK)

The idea is to get a Groveler in the UK (most of the days it is 3-4ft) and was thinking of the Electralite EPS construction for the Pyzel Gremlin as a way for the board to resist longer the environment.

So I was Looking at
5'10", 5'9" Gremlin?
Or 5'9" 5'8" Gremlin XL?
Fish tail or Squash Tail?

So just state your preference so I can really hear other people. i can talk to the shop and they can recommend me as well but decided to come here first.

thanks for your time surfers.

I'm 5'8 185lbs, I used to ride a 5'10" but now that I am older I ride a 6'0". I like the idea of you getting a 5'10", when I tried a 5'8" it felt like my foot positioning made it awkward, but partially because I got used to longer board by the time I tried one. I like the idea of the XL since you will undoubtedly have smaller waves rather than bigger ones. I have a fish already, I just ordered a thumbtail replacement because it catches waves great but it leaves me wanting more when the waves are steeper, even small ones.

Hope that helps.

Hey man I'm not really that familiar with Electralite EPS.. but I have a CI Spine-Tek EPS and the more I use that board with choppy surf, the more it seems really wonky compare to my regular PU boards. Lots of chatter and that usually makes me go with my other boards when I have the choice. I think we have similar surf in the NorthEast US, compare to UK, so I just thought it might be worth mentioning

Thanks for the feedback guys.

By the way my Retro Fish is a EPS/Epoxy and so far I do love it.

I think I have an idea of the groveler: Pyzel Gremlin 5'9" 20 1/8", 2 9/16" 33.1L ElectraLite
Since EPS has more buoyancy I think I will be really in 33.6L which is between my range 33-35.
I would really need that type of board for most of the year here in the UK.

I surf alot in late mornings and afternoons. Water isn’t as calm as during dawn patrol and I like how p/u boards surf better than eps when there’s a little wind chop and currents. That said I have a couple FireWire’s and two sandwich construction eps longboards. No opinion on length and volume….you ought to be able to sort that yourself since you’re familiar with both constructions.

I’m about your height and 90kg and have a pyzel xl pyzalien2 I like alot. IMO they did a good job of hiding the foam; the rails aren’t huge and the tail & nose aren’t too wide either. Going with the XL model will allow you to keep the length down which would be good for groveling.
