Surfing Waves

hello master surfers!
i came across a local used goods shop, and saw a 6'10" board that says "kalama" on it, and "timpone" down at the bottom of the board.

im trying to search for the brand online, but im getting 2 different brands for kalama and another for timpone. was wondering if this board is somehow legit, or is it any good maybe?

Dave Kalama is a notable Hawaiian surfer, big wave rider, even bigger wave Tow in surfer, life guard , foil and top waterman.
Gary Timpone also well regarded in Hawaii as a shaper, the board is legit!
The board itself is a good shaped board for medium sized waves with some serious performance requirements and grunt,
I’d call it mid length and it would cater for most surfers of upper intermediate skill.
Condition fair some dings to review in regard to repairs and water staining on the right rail looking at the bottom.
Fair price, don’t know what the market is where you are!

Is "Southpoint" one of the brands you found ?

the only brand im seeing in majority of local shops is "olaian", which are pretty cheap imo.

went back to the shop, and no sir, it doesnt say anything about southpoint, just "shaped by timpone"
i think ill try to haggle with the price, hoping they could lower it a bit, lol!
(and hoping theyre not a member on this forum too)

Let’s catalog the dings, check the nose... looks to be some there, common ding site, the board cover doesn’t allow a clear view,. The bottom of the board a number especial on the right rail as you are looking at it some water staining so are they now water tight!
One side of the swallow tail has been repaired, swallows are a common site for damage and poor repair.
Review the board with good repairs in mind, are they worth it on top of the board price.
Most importantly does this board suit how you plan to surf?
BTW what level do you feel your surfing is? There may be better choices!

honestly, i think im somewhere at the end of beginner level , and looking to buy the board and use it when i get better. currently, i find it hard to maneuver my 9'6 longboard, which im thinking might be easier doing on a shorter board. i didnt have any formal lessons on surfing, so im basically learning through experience, and watching yt vids.

oh btw, the seller might be willing to drop the price when i pointed out the dings, but im not too sure how much i should get it. and i saw someone else taking interest on it, if i get a green from you masters, then i might go for it. lol!

Just a 1 foot drop in size from 9'6" to 8'6" is a huge difference, especially in paddle power and where you can take off on the wave. 6'10" and for a beginner, no way. ( But better "a" board than "no" board )

would you advice then to let this one go?
i just got excited seeing a surfboard being sold on this shop for i dunno how many years its been, and thought it might be a good buy.

the seller dropped the price to 220 USD lol! (i can prolly push it to close at $200 ) if any of you masters would say its worth buying it, and keeping it for future use.
if not, then i would have to let go

You would need to learn how to properly repair the dings, both have been poorly repaired.
If your local used good shop rarely gets boards in, I am guessing you don’t have access to much surf supplies so you are probably away from the main stream. My thoughts if you can, check elsewhere! Would the resin for the repairs may be hard to come by too? without repairs you purchase will break down fairly quickly and become waterlogged. It might be waterlogged already , if it seems to weigh more than it should then yes it is!

Seems like I’m painting a gloomy picture, in the end anywhere, is it value for money??

It seems like a pretty good board at a reasonable price, but It's not a screaming deal nor does it seem like the perfect size/shape for you.

This board will definitely feel much smaller than your longboard, which can be good and/or bad. It will be harder to catch waves on it than your longboard as well, so it depends on your skill level. If I had to guess, I'd say something in the 7'6" to 8' range would be better for you right now. If so, this board might then serve better as your next-next board.

What are the other dimensions of the board? (I can't quite make it out in the photo.)
