Duckdiving

hello!

Wondering if I should be able to duckdive this board:

My dimensions: 180 lbs, 6 ft, and the board's (channel islands flyer) dimensions: 6'2x21.25 or 38.4 L

Basically I snapped my other board today and with the west coast maxing out tommorow bought an new board asap.
Fairly new to shortboarding, thoughb I was Able to duckdive my lost driver pro 6'0 pretty easily, although some larger walls of whitewater did annoy me. i'd say it was roughly 2-3 overhead on sets today, and might be approaching double overhead tommorow. Basically, can I duckdive this new board easily or am I in for a pain in the ass of a paddle out?

I'm roughly the same size and I can duck dive my 40L boards without issues. But waves that size will probably be problematic for any sized board. A lot of it is technique and timing. this video was helpful for me..

Thanks for the advice! I think my technique isn't the best- while I had no problems duckdiving my previous 28L board with this new board I find it rather challenging especially when I tried to get under larger walls of whitewater. To be fair, the board was barely underwater when i sat on it hahaha. Anyways, had a pretty fun session!

Today I used my 6'4" x 21 x 2 1/2" 40.2 L and had to duck dive a bunch in 2-3 foot beach break waves. No problems. I'm 5'3" 125 lbs.

Btw, are you using your knee or the ball of your foot to get the tail down ?

on bigger days I always use a step up, some as much as 40L. They duckdive, but not nearly as easily as my shortie. When I do, I only get about 3 to 4 inches under, not much, but enough to have the wave roll over me most of the time. It's not duckdiving all the way under, but enough to get you under and paddling right away. Remember: nose down, push with foot, paddle right away when you come up.
