What board to get for small waves?

Let me just say it: I am not a longboarder. But I've tried to find a small wave alternative and so far nothing beats a longboard,. Yet, I think there is still a chance to get something that is not as bulky as my 9'6".. What I have tried:

6'5 fish
6'5 mini simmons
6'10 swallow tail
8ft minimal (that worked, but seemed too big)

What do I try next? Again, looking for a small wave option that shorter than 9ft

How small is ‘small waves’? I had a fat tailed 6’10 that could go in thigh high waves with a bit of effort.

Have you tried the pure grovellor style boards? Like

Search for either of these two boards:
1) Ben Aipa big boy sting 7'4"

2) Walden Mini-Mega magic 6'10"

It'll be really hard to find the Aipa since Boardworks doesn't make it anymore. The Walden is still available from Surftech.

They both are total cheater boards, floats and paddles like a longboard yet turns on a dime.

My other funboard is a groveler, I can use it in small waves but with some effort.

I decided to copy my bro-in-law's 7'5 speed egg, it was made by Eberly Surfboards a while back and I got to try it last year on small conditions, it was one foot and it still caught waves., I might go in that direction since I've tried it in the past, in small and big waves.

I really thought my 6'5" mini simmons was it, but it was about the same as my fish.

Thanks for the reply

Final update: So I took it out a few times now, and twice in the wrong conditions.

Small days: as a twin it's a wave hog, knee-high I was paddling after waves next to guys in longboards no problems, and getting more waves than them.

Big days: took it out twice on big days, one time to just show it to a bud and another because the surf report was wrong. It holds up nice and wasn't completely stiff to turn, although I prefer a shortboard or stepup for bigger days it was fun sitting about 10yds outside the shortboarders dropping into bombs.

So, good board for small days, but better yet, the small wave search is ended
