Let's help you, by asking you several questions.
You say you are newbie, ok what can you do in your surfing now?
What are you riding now?
How is your paddle power for catching green waves?
Speaking of waves where do you surf, are they weak waves or better than that?
Your height too?

:D

That board was design for Slater, to be surfed like Slater does, in waves Slater surfs at.
1) How close to his level and his type of waves are you ?
2) What's the "volume" of your current board ? What make and model ?

im in southern cali, never surfed in my life, quick fast learning curve sports.

i came from stunt riding (motorcycles scene) and going to be transitioning into aerial surfing.

what do you think of this board for that type of specialty?

Well, since Helium is the latest tech from Firewire and they claim it's stronger and lighter then their popular FST, the 5'8 Gamma would be perfect for aerials..

Where is Dream2Surf?! I'd love to hear his input. Anyways, go to your local surf shop and RENT a board for the day. Tell them you want to rent a board appropriate for aerial surfing. Also tell them you never surfed a day in your life and note the reaction you get. Go surf that board. Let us know how it went. I suspect that your experience surfing a HP shortboard will produce a paradigm shift in your expectations of the learning curve in surfing. Until you go out and try surfing you have no idea of what to expect. So go surf and tell us about your experience. However, do not buy a surfboard of any kind until you have been surfing at least 10 times. Rent different boards to figure out what works best for you and your skill level.

Also what kind of "stunt riding?" Wheelies/stoppies on sport bikes? Or motocross stuff? What kind of bike?

If you're a TROLL or a real surfer trying to punk us, then go for it bro. Rip and Shred dude. ( and go back to those other cut throat surf forums )

If you're are serious, imagine a totally newbie whose never sat on a motorcycle say he wants opinions on a first MX bike to hit a triple or a super bike to drift the back wheel into the sweeper.

You would say " are you serious ?". Same for all of us, you are either joking with us or seriously have no clue what your getting into. We get all the jocks who do do well in all the other sports, but in those sports is there a risk of drowning. In those sports can you pull of to the side or call a time out ? Snowboarders and Skateboarders don't need to "catch" the mountain. You have to crawl before walk, walk before you run. and you want to FLY ??

I agree with try renting a shortboard first so you can find out how off your thinking is, but I DISAGREE with letting the shop know you've never surfed before. Why ? If my shop knew that, we wouldn't let you rent a board, because most likely we wouldn't get the board back. ( well if the leash doesn't stay attached to the body )

i doubt anyone could pull off an aerial the first time they surfed regardless of how good they are at other board sports,
i can skate decent, snowboard well but i'm barely an intermediate surfer.

OP, you've asked for the opinions, so you got them. If you don't believe what you are hearing, just go demo that board at a shop. They might not even let you lift a board, even a demo board.

OR, ask any real surfer (not the posers) in your town.

OR, go to other more "progressive" surfing forums and ask again.

Guess we are all trolls

"Name calling speaks to a lack of thought of the situation and a lack of concern of how the situation will resolve itself.

The study of psychology teaches us that when someone resorts to name calling, it usually speaks to feelings of inferiority and a feeling of inadequacy of the person doing the name calling. People stoop to the process of name calling when they feel lesser and need to make themselves feel more powerful.

If calling someone a name upsets the person that is being called the name, then the name-caller feels more powerful because they upset them and had an effect on them.

The best way to deal with name-callers is to be calm and think about the reasons that they have called you a name. It has nothing to do with the person being called the name, and says a lot about the one DOING the name calling".

Sorry my looks doesn't appeal to your taste, but remember "Chicks dig guys who surf". Hopefully forum moderators will give you a break on No personal attacks and flaming rule, since you're are new to the forum. I hope you can understand we are trying to help you. And thank you that you've made it clear you are not a troll or a real surfer making fun of us. Since you truly want to get to the point of aerial surfing, just look at it if I wanted to do YOUR Freestyle Superbike Flamingo move, yet never sat on a bike before in my life. Agreed, it takes time, like in any sport, but first you need to get down the basics. I've seen hundreds if not thousands of beginner surfers and there's only been ONE surfers that's pulled a 2 inch air ( allegedly) in their first week of surfing, so maybe with your physic and quick learning curve it may be possible for you. But remember, the hardest part in surfing is the PADDLING. And starting out on a shortboard makes it that much more harder on yourself. But again, as others have said, try rent a shortboard and see for yourself. If you got the cash, buy the helium, if it doesn't work out you can sell it used to someone. But please go out where there's lifeguards and stay away from rocks and currents.

Such as "Definitely buy this board so you'll never catch waves. All the more for me"

Or perhaps "What the hell does riding motorcycles have to do with surfing?"

Socalhp, take your homophobia elsewhere. Perhaps it flies in your 7-11 parking lot, but not here.
