Costco Fish to Shortboard

Hi guys,
Background stats: I'm a 24 year old girl in Honolulu who started surfing three months ago. 5'4'', 120 pounds, goofy-footed. I learned on the $65 dollar Costco Fish, usually go out on mellow spots/days (1-4 faces) on the South Shore.
The foamy Sushi 5'8'' is hard for me to duckdive, and is slow to make turns (obviously, part of the problem is me, not the board). I'm thinking of graduating to a 'real' board now, probably another fish. What would you all recommend?
