Bic 6'7 wahine shortboard?

Postby CharKnud » Mon Jun 10, 2013 4:16 pm

Hi, i'm new here i'mm 13 and my dad told me i could get my first surfboard, since everytime i go to surf i end up hiring a board for two weeks and it actually works out cheaper just to buy one. I'm 5'1 and was wondering if the shortboard would be reasonably easy to ride as it is still (even though a shortboard) quite big the last board used was 7 foot and i'm just looking for a board to ease me into shortboarding. So what do you think?
Thanks

Hi CharKnud, welcome to surfing waves, sounds like you are on your way to a great start, I can't see any problem with the 6'7" BIC Wahine board, hopefully you are a young women not a guy as the decor could cause a bit of a ribbing.

At 13 you should be able to adapt quickly and no it is not too long nor too short, it will be different and slightly harder to paddle onto waves the first couple of time but after that all will go well.
BICs quite durable so you will have a board that will last for a long time in your initial stages.
BTW does Dad surf? If he doesn't or never has then just a light friendly caution, people who don't surf can have strange ideas of what surfing entails.
If your dad surfs you will be ahead in the game!
Enjoy your journey

Keep us posted on your progress and encourage other girls your age to join you surfing.
PS you probably already have, but learn to swim strongly, and while you are at it take some time in learning to bodysurf. great fun for non board days and can be a lifesaver, it will give you a better understanding of surf dynamics..
Go enjoy
