I've heard tuflite boards are very hard to ding, and made of epoxy but still flex as much, if not more than a standard fiberglass board. Is this true?

I think they are a good investment if you're just starting out. Not indestructible but definitely more durable than a normal PU board!

I hate tuflite boards. Super floaty and non responsive. Feels like surfing a steel plank. I like to feel the flex of a surfboard, the board feels alive.

Hello Coolryanrocks,
I have been surfing regular polyester boards since the 70's and I also have had a few tuflight boards. I would say they are definitely different. one of the tuflight boards i have now is a 6'0" randy French Soul Fish and it is super responsive and quick and works so good in small to med surf (good or junky). The difference in the tuflight boards is that they are stiffer and lighter and last so much longer. They also don't flex much, which can make them harder to control. This to some is a bad thing, but to others it can have you going faster and surfing quicker because stiffer boards can be more responsive. They also can get out of control quickly depending on your ability and the type of board you have and the surf conditions you are in. I do personally prefer the feel of a traditional polyester board, but these boards do work. I think it is hard to classify them as a group though. I have polyester boards i like and don't like. I also have had Surftech Tuflight boards I like and don't like. Every board is different, and it really depends on what you are looking for.
Hope that helps!

A while back I bought a 10ft takayama and my 9 1/2 fiberglass board surfed better, so sold it right away. I also bought a flyer II and did not like that either.
Does it mean they are no good? Not really, but for me I didn ot like them, but it is based on two specific shapes. Maybe I would have liked one of the other shapes better, but I never tried another one since.
