Surfing Waves

Hi guys,

I recently picked up a really nice 5'10 Epoxy board. I'm currently riding a 6'4" board that is 18.5X2.2" and I can ride that decently. Balance isn't a problem.

My question is, do you guys think going straight down to the 5'10 will be too big of a drop? The 5'10 is 1" wider so that should aid in balance a bit. Don't want to waste a trip to the beach to find out I can't ride my 5'10.

You probably could ride it, but the question is why do you want to? What's going to be better about that board than your current board?

My current board is old and beat up, plus it's a bit longer then I'd like for a shortboard. It's not because I think it's "cooler" to have a shorter board. I was longboarder for quite a while.


Decided to take it out today & try it and it was surprisingly easy, especially considering I stopped longboarding and started shortboarding only a week ago.

You already have the board, so take it and see how it goes.
What else are you going to do, never surf it?

Your 6'4 is really narrow and thin, so if you can surf that then a wider 5'10 should be fine. I would be worried if the 5'10 had the same thickness and width, and since it's epoxy it will float more than the fiberglass board you had before. So yeah, go with it.
