Transitioning from a Fish to a smaller Fishy-like board?

Postby LTran562 » Wed Sep 21, 2011 2:01 am

ok not sure if it's much of a "fishy-like" board, but I recently came across a JS Nitro 5'8" 19 1/4" wide 2 3/8" thick and was thinking about purchasing it. im coming off of a 6'4" 20 1/4" wide 2 3/4" thick board that i picked up from a garage sale that i absolutely loved! it was quite big and bulky for my size however.. had a lot of trouble duck diving it and turning it at times. i did manage to catch waves just fine with it and paddled well with it. im 5'7" at about 135lbs. think it's too much of a transition? im from socal so i surf sunset/HB area and the occasional trestles. thanks in advance!

Hi Ltran562, welcome to Surfing Waves,
This new one will certainly be easier to duckdive :-D . It's a fair bit smaller than your current board. I think the combination of your weight, and the waves that you'll be surfing, and that you've said that you don't have problems catching waves on your current board, you should be fine.
You'll have to work a bit harder, just make sure you get plenty of surfing in on it.

If you get it, let us know how you geton

Greetings! and thanks for the warm welcoming!
I will probably go and pick it up later in the day today, and won't be able to get back into the water until next Thursday, but I will definitely post up how everything goes. Thanks for the help! Pretty stoked to get off that tanker of a board and try something a little more loose.
