Which one would work best for me?

Hi all,
I'm 55 years old and haven't surfed in about 40 years. I'm looking forward to doing it again. I'm 5'9" and weigh about 185 lbs. I live in San Antonio and would be making regular trips to Corpus Christi for surfing.
I'm ready to buy a used board now and I'm trying to decide between two of them. The first is a fish design, 6'3" x 19-1/2" x 2-1/2" with a small swallow tail. The second is a shortboard, 7'0" with a little extra width toward the nose and a little extra thickness and a squash tail. (I don't know the exact dimensions of the board).
I'm leaning toward the 7 footer (I have lots of muscle memory yet as far as surfing goes and used to ride a short skinny board in my youth). I would be surfing though, in small, sometimes mushy surf as it is in the Gulf .
Will the shortboard catch the smaller waves ok? I'm told it's a good floater and paddler, or should I go with the fish?
Many, many thanks for ANY and all replies and advice.
Mods please move this to the right forum. Thanks.
