How experienced are you, and what waves are you surfing?

I have surfed a couple times and get up very easy on fun boards and long boards and I wanna learn to ride a short board so I can do tricks.
My waves range from 1 to about 3 or 4 feet during the day

Maybe get a used shortboard to start with, or try some different sized boards out before you buy one, so you have a better idea what size will work for you. Experienced short board surfers usually like thinner narrower boards for real waves as they are quicker, more responsive, and higher performance. For smaller waves a lot of guys will add some width and thickness to help keep the board on top of the water, so you can still have fun on the small waves. The Channel Islands Flyer is a good board for all around conditions. It is high performance, but still has added width in the tail to help it fly down the line and pick up speed quickly. You will have to figure out what size will work best for you as everybody is at a different level in their surfing, and that is why I suggest riding some different sized boards before you buy one.
Good luck!
