hows it going im new to the site, just wondering what peoples methods are when taking off. i usually use the "old fashon way" of just paddling. but last summer i saw a guy riding prob a 5'11 shortboard submerge his board and shoot for the wave. this guy caught every wave olmost effortlesly and he barley paddled. just wondering if anyone has any info on this method cause everytime i try this it never works.

You have to practice and time it just right. When you submerge your board it wants to come back up out of the water, so you use that buoyancy factor of the board to help propel you down the face of the wave. The trick is to submerge your board in the perfect spot on the wave (where it is steep enough so your board can slide down the face of the wave after submerging) and give a few quick paddles at the same time. If you practice this you will get it down. You also have to keep the nose down so you are not pushing water. Good Luck!

Been interested in one of these for a while, I've yet to hear a bad thing about 'em. Seems
like a one-stop doomachine.

You've mentioned doom now leave the room.
Give up the ghost and leave this post,
instead of warcraft we're getting wet
more exciting and a better bet.
a surfing site to peddle warcraft,
tells us, you are truly daft.

I've tried this and fully submerging the board, shooting it forwards like the end of a duckdive. I find there just isn't enough buoyancy to get me enough speed, I get much more by doing a few strong paddles. Maybe I am just not doing it right.
edit - doing this on a pretty thick thruster fish too - 6'4 x 20 1/2" x 2 5/8"
