Hey fellas,

Im from virginia beach which is small to medium swell occasionally head high and am looking for some advice on a type of shortboard I should look for. I currently ride a 6'2 19'' 2 3/16 and am at the point where I want to do manuevers and turns. Im 5'11 165. Im thinking something along the lines of 6'1-5'11, 18-19'', 2.25-2.5?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your current board is plenty small enough for your weight. I would change the fins to something with more bite and really get in to digging that rail! :)

Going smaller will be likely to hurt your wave-count, indeed that small is unknown territory for me so not overly sure. You could try going shorter and fatter, perhaps an eps fish that is short but a little thicker would do the job; 5'10" x 19" x 2 5/8" maybe.

I would go to your local surf shop, and see if they have any small short board rental/demo boards you could try out. You then could make a better decision about buying a new board, as nothing can tell you more than your own experience! Be sure to write down the dimensions of the boards you really like.
