Al Merrick shortboard

hey guys
atm im using a 6"10 Webber fish shortboard. its really tricky to do cut back and get air with. Im weigh in at 13 and 1/2 stone and i am 6ft. i have been surfing for 6 years, was wondering if a 6ft - 6"4 Al merrci would be a good board for me? i use the new FCS JW-1 which are sick btw.

If you want a Channel Islands Al Merrick board that goes fast and easily does airs. I would check out a Channel Islands Flyer. It is super fast and loose! You can race ahead of sections and do big round house cutbacks, or launch airs if your surfing ability is able!

I believe they stopped making the Flyer along with quiet a few other good boards. But if your lucky, you can still get one of the last few ones...

The Double Helix is a different board construction. Here is what the CI website says about it:

"This is the first release from our Skunkworks research and development program. Not to be confused with graphite rail boards you’ve seen on the market, the Double Helix offers a unique three dimensional helliptical rail wrap. During the designing and testing process we found that completely enclosing the rail in a secret blend of micro-synthetic fibers added strength and gave the board a fast and springy feel. Stringerless construction, epoxy layup and a special blend of polyurethane foam, these boards are a true extension of your feet."

As far as the Flyer goes they still have them and you can still order them. Here is the description from the CI Website:

A worldwide favorite, this design excels in small to medium surf but still rides and responds like a conventional shortboard. Al considers this the best small wave shortboard he has ever designed. It should be ridden 2” to 3” shorter and 1/4” to 1/2” wider than your normal shortboard. We can build the Flyer up to 7’6” for you big guys.
