Ordered New Gun

I had a 7ft semigun, but it only caught waves slightly better than my step up, so I ordered a new one, 7'6 but a little wider and thicker to add glide. I am probably sacrificing some performance by getting it that big, but I was passing up some waves cause I could not catch up to them on the last swell.

Here is the pic of the new board, and the wave I was riding last week in baja. Yes that small spec is me...

Sweet looking board mate, thinking of getting something similar myself. Got axed by a biggy/heavy/gnarly wave a couple of years ago and nearly drowned. Came up blue and puking water after it. Similar looking wave to that one.

Got in last weekend on a nearby reef as the swell was building. Went from 3 foot to well over double overhead in the space of a few sets and kept getting bigger. Caught couple of bombs (felt like bombs at the time anyway, looked bigger than it felt from the cliff when I got out) until I started to feel a bit under gunned and got hammered again. Kept a cool head this time though and now feel I finally have the confidence to hit the big stuff again. Couldn't help feeling I might have stayed in as it got bigger again if I had a bigger board. Was on a 6'4.

You have much experience with guns/semi-guns? How's that one going for you? As in how does it feel paddling? Was thinking along the lines of higher end of 7' getting closer to 8' too. Any recommendations? Will be talking to my shaper but good to have an idea first.

themathteacher,
appreciate the photos of board and baja califorina wave. Thank goodness y ou are identified in the wave photo. Tell you this, your post makes me want to go down there, too. Been a long time since I've been in Mexico.

We preety much only go down where there is swell, but we have been getting it good in the winter. We surf a point break that is WAY easier than any of the local spots when it's big, nice easy channels to paddle out and uncrowded surf. Fun stuff!

Only problem is that my express border pass expired, so gotta wait for the renewal...
