moving from funboard to shortboard

hi guys
I have been thinking about buyin a shortborard over the past week or so. I am able to stand up on my brothers 7"10 funboard which i learnt to surf on a few years back but after some injurys i stoppped ive rencently just started surfing agian and thought i sould buy my own board i have been looking at an NSP 6"6 - 20 1/8 - 2 7/16 thick, as the price is not too steeep and its the largest short board they make .Im 6"3 and roughly 180 lbs im pretty athletic as i bmx.I would like some experianced help with what would be best for me so any advice would be much appeciated befor i buy a board

Right...

Dont buy an NSP shortboard. They're cr@p.
(their mini-mals are perfect for beginners - but their shortboards are a hideous compromise)

6'6 is way too small for you.

You can stand on a 7'10 board (a slightly pointy minimal incidentally) - that doesn't mean you're ready for a shortboard.

If you're determined to drop down to a smaller board, get something like a 7'2 funboard. At 6'3 and 180lb it'll be quite a while before you're ready for anything like a 6'6, if ever.
