Surftech RF Soulfush VS. 7S Superfish

Postby RobG814 » Fri Jun 04, 2010 6:47 pm

Hi, I was hoping someone could give me some advice on here. I am currently planning on making the move down from a minimal to a shorter board so I can try and progress more and start learning harder turns and have some more maneuverability. I've been looking into some used boards near me and I've found a couple and not sure what would be best for me. I am 5'8" and 140lbs, here are my options:

Surftech RF Soulfish - 6'1"x20.1"x2.4"

7S Superfish - 5'9"x20x2.5"

Rusty Pirahna - 6'x20"x2.1"

I am leaning more towards the Superfish just because it is the cheapest but am willing to spend a little more for one of the other boards if you guys think it would make a big difference. Thanks in advance!

Personally I don't like Surftech boards, but I wouldn't go for a 5'9" as your starter shortboard, at all. So I guess the Surftech would be a good choice for you, it's pretty wide and thick, so it'll float you without a problem and it's going to let you catch waves easier than the 7s superfish, which might also be too fast due to the size. But 7S Superfishes are a lot of fun, I got to say, we sell them on our shop here in CR and they are rented like crazy as well as easy ride.

I just got a 7s 6''0 as my board for the smaller days, instead of my 6''2 shortboard, amazing board, catches everything and is pretty good in the turns, I would think a 5''11+ would be better than a 5''9, a mini mal to a 5''9 is quite a big jump, but see if you can try out different boards before you buy :)

thanks for the replies guys! i really wish the superfish was a 6' or 6'3", cause i was thinking jumping all the way down to a 5'9" would be a little too drastic too. ill see if the guys will let me demo the boards maybe and then pick which one i like better. the superfish seems like a better board overall from what ive read about it but i might have to go with the surftech anyway just because of the size
