Surfing Waves

im looking at getting a new shorty made for me by a local shaper which will be something like 6"6 x 20 x 2 3/4 (a heavy guy) i want a quad set up on it but dont know what it will be like with the template and squash tail. the pic below isnt the board i will be getting but it will be that type of shape in the dims i gave earlier. has anyone tried this out? will it work? or should i just stick to a thruster?

I've got a 6'3 quad which is more or less a standard shortboard shape - its fatter round the tail, but not like a fish.
It works brilliantly - masses of drive, and it holds well in most conditions.
It doesnt catch waves as easily as you'd imagine somehow, but I dont know whether thats anything to do with its quadness - more likely its just a too high performance board for this low performance surfer.

I'm 200lbs, at one point I thought of taking all my surfing to quads, so I had a 6'6" x 19 3/4" x 2 1/2" shortie made quad. Found it made it really easy to catch waves, much easier than my thrusters, but dissapointed me in bigger surf by having a lot of tail slide on the wall. Ended up getting bigger back fins to counteract the slide but then it seemed like my other thruster, so I sold it. I kinda wish I still had it, I would only suggest you buy two sets of back fins, one for steep big days and one for average to small days.

I ended up getting a 6'3" fishy board like drowningbitbybit does for my small days or big mushy days and a 6'5" thruster for my beach breaks and steep/hollow waves.

Also having two custom quads made, hoping I can dial in the paddle and glide with the hold up, will post up when I pick them up. But yeah, I think it's a good idea to go quad.
