Good Size Shortboard for Me?

I'm pretty new to surfing and have been renting foam boards, but now my uncle has offered to let me borrow/keep his 6'2" shortboard as he hasn't surfing in quite a few years. I have ridden a 9'0" longboard (foam) a couple times and then skipped up to a 7'0" funboard (foam) and seemed to do fine on it. Now I want to know if this 6'2" shortboard will be ok for me. I am 5'7" and around 125 lbs.

Going to get the board today. No one has replied yet so I won't know if it will be good until I use it this weekend.

Borrow a board? - GO GET IT!

It’s free - and will be difficult, and you will hate it, then you will ride it, then you will love it.

Thanks for the reply. I don't get frustrated easily and I am a mellow guy. There are going to be some nice swells this weekend in SoCal. A lot better than last week where I was riding 1 footer.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be able to keep it because it has been laying around in his garage for a long time.

Dude, at 125lbs if you can't ride it now you will later, go pick up that free board and take it for a spin. Worse comes to worse, go to home depot and pick up a pair of ladder brackets and hang it on the wall.

I'm going to take it out in the water today. I hope it won't be too hard. :P

Most of the waves were too big for me to ride, because I live in SoCal and we had one of the biggest swells of the Summer. I rode a few, but I had to take my bodyboard out because the waves were too big for someone of my surfing ability.

Where did you go? I surf in San Diego, hit it 3 to 4 times a week

I'm bombing down to baja tomorrow to see if the last of this swell gives me some juicy tubes.

I went out yesterday and it was about 2 feet, pretty fun, but I got a dent/ding in the rail! I'm not sure if I need to get it repaired.

What kind of ding is it? If it's just a pressure ding it should be fine, but if it broke the glass then you should repair it. Nothing is worse than leaving a bad ding unrepaired.

Is the glass the actual fiberglass or the resin? It is a pressure dent with a little hairline crack in the resin.
