Should I Buy This Board?

Postby surfm16 » Fri Jun 19, 2009 3:37 pm

I am looking to go to a surfboard that is shorter and better than my previous one- an NSP 6'8 Funboard, and I recently saw a 6'2 Mark Richards Flying Fish in my surfshop on sale w/ fins for $460. I am 5'3.5" and 100lbs. I am just wondering is this an ok board to transition to? I live in San Diego so will this be ok for our waves and conditions too? Thanks :D

Nevermind I bought it anyway. I haven't ridden it yet, though. They guy at the surf shop said it would be a good transition board for me :D

Well Nsp's are like big heavy tanks - 6'2 fish is going to feel very different (then again a fish rides differently to most boards) But Living in san diego you need a fish or something like it for particular condtions. If you are willing to spend $460 on a board why not spend $385 on a custom made board with fins. UNtil you know exactly what you need its a costly venture to take pot luck. Bset leave it to an expert who can give you sound advise on your board requirements. There are lots of shapers in san diego but i have personal experience with only a few - i would be happy to point you in the right direction just send me a PM.

There are also 2 schools of thought on fishes personaly i think its a bad call to get one early on in your surfing but im sure other will chime in suggesting otherwise. This is really just personal experience.

surfm16, let's see a photo of this new board. If action shot, all the better.

Sorry I don't have an action shot becuase I have only been able to go to the beach with it once so far. The waves were bad but I could stand up on it easily.

Thanks. I can't wait to ride it tomorrow. Especially since the waves are probably going to be a lot more consistent than last time(where there was like one good wave every hour!)
