Surfing Waves

I've been surfing a mini mal for some months now, and I was cruising the used boards, and saw online a Corona board that just popped up.

It looks like a promo board. 190cm advertised.. thats about 6.2 a little too small for my first shortie. 19.5 wide, and no thickness advertised. But he only wants US$120. Says hes only used it once.

I've been wanting to go short for the winter as there will be less people so I can spend some soul time.

I'd also like a really cheap shortie for my learning curve. I bust up by mini mal in my 3rd sess some months ago. Very heartbroken about that, the board was still new.

I'm 5.8 125

Anybody every seen this corona board? unless it REALLY is bad, I'd like to get it.

that board is not small for you. it'll probably be the right size if you've been surfing a mini-mal.

some people would say it would be wise to go for 7'0 or 6'8 shortboard, but it in the end you'll end up selling and buying then wasting your money in the process.

just make sure that board floats and it is actually a surfboard.

it's probably made by a decent shop. last time i was at wrv's shaping/glassing 'factory' they had a ton of newcastle beer boards. i wanted one sooo bad. and for only $120, why not? it would at least be a cool wall hanger

Man for the cost it's a killer wall art piece so why not?? Build a quiver of boards allways,,, can you ever have enough???

Go ahead, but we warned that the display boards are not really shaped for anything, they are simply glassed from a blank with no thought to performance or anything else, strictly a commercial gimmic.

Okay, I went and got it. It lacks detail, but I'll take it into the water the next time I go during the week. Week-ends are just too packed for learning on new boards.

Provided it has some shape and aint too thin that'd be just about fine for your (shortest) shortboard - you'll have to get used to it though.

Its not too small.
I went from a 7´0 to a 6´3´´ and i feel fine on the 6´3´´.
You need to push it up a little bit in the paddling dept. But duckdiving, gathering speed and handling the board is way easier so you´ll save a lot of energy there.
You have far more experience than me. I think its just what you expect of this sport. If you like it clean, simple and foolproof then its better to stick toa minimal, funboard, huge fish.
If you want fun lines and to experience shortboard riding i think you should give it a go.
Finally 6´´ above your height is a safe bet. ´Besides the board is very wide so dont think about it much and start surfing it.

Well, I took out mr corona board to my break yesterday. At first it was even difficult to paddle properly, but those difficulties went away after a bit and it was actually not difficult at all.

Then there was the sitting. Pretty intimidating for me when the nose goes under water with the swell. That took about two hours to get used to. I put my hand over my shoulder to pull up my zipper on my wetsuit, and my board went for a direct line to towards outer space.

Difficult to catch waves, especially on a small day like sunday. But easier on the hollows.

Very sensitive. I wont look back, shortboard it is.

hahahaha, it sounds you are having a good go there - the skywards board rocketing out of the water is common for the first couple of times !

You will get used to it - oh, and a good tip is to arch your back like hell when catching waves because in the not too distant future, you'll be able to actaully control the board and take off just by raising and lowering your shoulders !

just practice more and ask question when you get stuck on something.
