cutting off the nose of thrusters

i was wondering why some people cut off the nose of their surfboards. i've seen it on a bunch of boards, and at first i thought they were broken or something, but i've seen a couple with glassed finishes and a kind of mini rocker. what are the benefits of this? how is it done? i've got a couple of boards with broken noses that might be redeemable if i do this, especially since i felt a bit overgunned on them in the first place. i would've asked the guys that had their noses clipped, but they were too busy punting airs.

I think it is a repair... I have not seen a cropped nose in a shop.

If you punt air you go through boards quick....couple inches off the nose...sand it glass it, punt away.

well there are boards that are made without a nose and most other times its a repair thats not worth doing. one of the problems is that the rocker will be less and therefore paddling into waves would be harder and paddling out. though i dont know how they ride

they kind of give it a false, steep rocker when they refinish the nose. i think it gives it a more skatey kind of feel when surfing. 5050 waveskates have boards with snubby noses.

my friend has a shortboard with the nose chopped off. he got dumped on a sandsucking slab and snapped the nose. they just reglassed over what was left. he calls it 'the shovelnose' because it's so hard to make drops without it pearling
