which al merrick board should i take out a mortgage for!!!

Postby surferdude_scarborough » Thu Oct 23, 2008 3:47 pm

hi i think surfing is really cool so i want to get a shortboard. obviously i have to get a merrick because they are such good boards. (pros ride them) so i want to blow my life savings on one of them the question is do i get a flyer, mbm, cx, that one the bloke talking about cutbacks and airs wanted.

i know my local shaper could make me an exact copy of one which is tailored to me for half the cost. but why would i want to have two boards when i can have one like the pros? help me.

sorry im feeling a little grumpy and cynical coz the surfs is pants

because people think that al merrick boards are the dog boll**** so they would much rather one of (his shapes) rather than two from a good shaper.

only al merrick boards can launch the big airs and pull of ridiculous turns.

$600+ dollar custom board vs. a $350 dollar second hand al merrick board. Pretty easy choice for somebody on a lower budget. Its not always about people being ignorant, not everyone can afford a custom board compared to a nice used board.

'surferdude' good post :yearght:
What planet are you on? custom boards now cost almost as much as an almerrick...you might pay an extra what 30 40 quid for somthing that will last you years (hopefuly if you look after it and dont snap it). In fact most boards from all the quality shapers are expensive.

kelly rides al merrick so i have to. I ain't going to some local shaper that gonna have a crappy logo on my board. I need that "channel island" logo smacked infront of my board so the other people can see that I m cool. I'll look like a kook with some stranger board from a shaper.

there's a difference between a second hand almerrick and a custom made board obv. the price of any second hand board is going to be less than a new one. so for that matter...a brand new al merrick is going to be almost twice the price of a custom board (depending on which shaper you use) but even the most expensive shapers in the area sell boards for 350 and almerricks are atleast 100 more

Go custom, my shaper makes me whatever shortboard I want in fiberglass for $380 and epoxy for $430, color and all other bells and wistles extra. All shapers know their competition, so they know how to make a Merrick or anything else. Why not have one made to your specific specs?

Also, buying a custom is like putting it on layaway. You gott put up half when you order it, and about a month later when it's done (sometimes longer, depends how good the surf is) you pay the other half, so really easy on your wallet.

al merrick this al merrick that. Yeah yeah good boards but for $700 a pop pfh You can sell anything with enough hype for any price

Give me my custom board over a merrick or any other top manufactured board any day. Why cause....

A - its made exactly yo my specifications..

B - it rips and does exactly what i want

C its basically half the price
