Surfing Waves

I have to say, I've been surfing for about only 2 months. Started with a Dragonfly 7'6" (cheap chinese board), moved on to a used Al Merrick Flyer 6'6" with quiet big dimensions and today... I decided to finally take these two boards, as I didn't use the 7'6" and the Flyer 6'6" and ended up exchanging them for an Anacapa 6'3" Tri-Fish. I am so glad I made this change, I decided to go on my thoughts on whether to change them or not (after a long thread discussion here if I should do it or not) and I did it! I couldn't be happier! I can easily duck dive this surfboard, it feels great at paddling (and even thought the dimensions are smaller!) and it's just beautiful on the waves! I love it! I can actually control my surfboard now... I couldn't be happier by ignoring all the comments from everyone here! Hahaha (no offense) after all... I guess sometimes we just have to go by our thoughts! But I have to say I made a great choice.

^^ I ride the 6'3 trifish also. Great board for the price! Not sure why they call it a fish though, its pretty much a performance shortboard with a swallow tail. Anyways, its a fun board for most waves you run into.

Probably Because it's so thick and wide. It reminds me of some of my first thrusters in the early 80s

^modern fish, if it's a fish at all. just because a board is a bit wider and a bit thicker and has a swallow tail, doesn't make it a fish. when i think of a fish i think of under 5'9", wide, thick, and a deep swallow tail. quad or twin fin

a shortboard with a swallowtail is still a shortboard

Have had this conversation with my shaper, I had him make me a 6'3" x 20" x 2 1/2" quad epoxy shortboard that was thick to the rails with a half moon tail, really boxy, copied the Xanadu pig template but to my specs.

He called it a fish when I picker her up, I asked him why he did, he said preety much anything wider and thicker than a normal shortboard that has a split tail is called a fish now a days. I asked him why, he said cause it takes too long to say "boxy rails half-moon tail shortboard"...

So, might be just a convenience thing. I've been calling it a modern fish when I refer to it, cause I have a retro that is totally fishy and this one is nothing like it.

Top one - That's a fish.

Bottom one - That aint a fish.

Actually, Ive got a 6'6 "hybrid fish" which is basically a fat shortboard with a swallow tail and boxy rails, and can be ridden with a twin fin set-up.

And I call it 'the fish' but Im being lazy - what I mean is that its 'a fat shortboard with a slight propensity towards being a little bit fishy, but is not, in fact, a fish at all, even if I do sometimes surf it as a twinny'.
But thats a bit of a mouthful

And why let all these details get in the way of a good catchphrase which may even supersede ?

Yep. I sold the green one to my brother in law, total wave hog but wanted a better performing fish, so just got one shaped. High density foam stringers instead of a wood stringer, epoxy wrapped lightweight eps blank.
