What other companies should I look at?

These are the models and shape that I am looking at.

LOST Quad Shark

LOST Round Nose Fish Quad

STRETCH "Nathan Fletcher" 4-Fin

COLE Fire Fly Quad

SB Surfboards The Encore

I am looking for any other models to consider. Price is a little of concern not trying to spend more than 600

Whatever board I go with it will be:

6'8"
Future Fins Quad
thickness..probably 2 3/4 or close
width near 20

I am 5'10" 160

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TRY TO TALK ME INTO A DIFFERENT STYLE BOARD..........THIS I AM SURE OF JUST MORE BOARDS TO LOOK AT. THANKS OH YEAH NO POP OUT JUNK

if you went to a shaper with those specs, you could probably get one for that price

I'd second this. But why so specific for your first board, if im reading all your other posts right?

Go to a local shaper.

Lost over sands like many companies. It will break.

You could definitely get a board that size custom made from a local shaper, who will really do a better job.

Yes you have read my post correctly....I met a friend of a friend who is letting me use some of his boards. Since trying different shapes and sizes I think that this one would be the best for local surf conditions plus it will have good float to it, paddle on the easier side and have the more skatey feel that I like. I do not want a log and I am progressing very quickly according to others. I think a true FISH would be too loose and to short. Should be a good board for a one board quiver........not to say I won't get more just for now with my current money flow. I do have my eye on the used market just very hard to find in those dimensions. Found a couple but for local pick up only in Cali.

Wow , for someone that does not even know how to surf this is a pretty ........... statement man. typical though.

and for someone not NOT LOOKING TO BE " COOL" JUST WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME like you stated in earlyer posts
those sure are some mainstream cool boards and brands. all those boards you have listed are performance surfboards!

not exactly a board you want to learn on, but you can if you have good really
really good balance and are in tip top paddle shape.

those dimensions are all wrong though! every board design your going to need different
dimensions for your height, weight, ability, and the board design itself.

those dimensions are way to big for those boards, for someone your height
and weight. they are not going to ride how they are designed and should for you at those dimensions.

your feet will never be in the proper placement. and they will all be too corky.
if you do get one of those get one for your height and weight so it rides how
it should.

with that being said.
just get an egg or "fun board" man seriously.
get something where your feet don't need to be in the sweet spots.
your going to have more fun on something suited for a person learning to surf and
you will progress much faster to get on a performance design.

when you have progressed enough to be on one of those boards
that you mentioned above, you can use your board you learned on for those
grovel days when the surf is small and weak. or those days when your lazy
and just want to cruise. everyone needs to have a board for those days.
just pick up something for cheap off the used rack to start.

where are you surfing?? i am guessing Cali someplace since all those boards of choice.

that"s my advice and opinion take it or leave it
and good luck.

What about SB Surfboards (Steve Boysen) on website it is 499 for board with free shipping and on surfskatesupply.com the prices seem decent and only charge 20$ more to go to a 6'8"..........you get to choose every dimension and thickness of glass etc.
What shapers are in South Carolina......or maybe i could drive to N. Carolina or N. Florida.......with gas prices today may be easier to have shipped any suggestions and do they have a website?

That's a diagram of what the ocean is like here if you haven't noticed. I have a 6'8" egg that I surf like once a week, that is built for small waves. The rest of the days it's too small for that, and I have to use a log. I've been surfing for 6 years.

I enjoy surfing a big board so much more on the east coast. There's no point to try to get a small board. If you shortboard and surf the weekends in hot spots (generally the only spots) you're just going to get snaked all day. You don't progress much like that.

Right now it's September, it's hurricane season, this is prime east coast waves. So a board that size is good for someone with lots of experience for this month and the two following. Other than that, it's inconsistent and you gotta have something big to have fun.

Would you like to calm down and realize people are trying to help you?

And the no-popouts avatar is a nice pleasantry but honestly buying mass produced CNC made boards isn't helping the surf industry either.

Tomcat I am as calm as they come....I understand they are trying to help but I was also told to go to my local shop and talk to them...so I did and this is what they recommended why am I to blame if someone has seen me surf and they are the local know how in the area....I'm not some clown with no clue....I am new to it but I have read many threads in the beginner forum and wondered how some could be so clueless.....I just seem to get it more I guess.

Where in South Carolina are you and what shop did you go to? They are going to tell you about boards in their shop and want you to buy from them. Whatever gets them the sale is what they are all about.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:44 pm
by saltH2O
Then why would so many people on this site tell you to go to your local shop......The others in the area carry BIC and other similar boards. The one I went to carries Allison, BING, LOST,CI, and a few others......he didn't try to sell me anything......we talked for 45mins or so and recommended used.....I am just trying to find good boards to search for that match what I am looking for. In fact he tried to sway me away from anything they had in at the time in the used section.....whether it was because of condition or shape size etc.......not once did he try to push me into a new board................if anything he was the most helpful person I have talked to explaining and showing me the differences in boards rocker concave rails etc.

by tomcat360
That's good, because every one of those boards are high, and the only ones I have any respect for are Bings. (Al Merrick is a good shaper too)

If you're gonna spend 600 bucks, go to a local shaper. Doesn't mean local shop. Go to swaylocks.com and SEARCH! for a SC shaper. If you post they will shred you to pieces.
