If its for your first short board i would say it might be a touch to narrow and thin.
How heavy are you?

How tall are you and how much do you weight? Sorry my stone to pounds conversion skills have been shoddy lately

kitesurfer is likely right but if its something you really like, it is not impossible to learn on it. Just face the fact that it will take some time. I learned on a 5-10. And no I'm not a leprechaun.

Good lookin board.. I dig it. Have you taken it out yet? How does it do? You enjoy it? ..or are you still in the process of maybe buying it?

Hope it works well for you. :D

I looked at one of those thinner Al Merricks for me before.. but when I had the thing in my hands, it seemed wayy too narrow for what Im used to.. but then again, I'm just as tall as this board you have shown.. :x

quite a nick stick, as the others have said hard to change to.

maybe think about a fish, its short so itll still be reactant to your movement, however abit more stable.

I weight 160 pounds and tried learning on a 6´5 with similar dimensions.
To make the story short i almost gave up surfing because of frustration.
I had over 15 years of bodyboarding experience.
Yet the waves over here are pretty much fast breaking, not the best to learn on.
I have had a much better learning experience on my 7´hybrid.
and after a year of learning process i plan on getting a 6´4 but much wider and thicker than that one.

For your weight, i dont know your height a 6´4´´ can be a good board specially if you are young. I am kind of old at 30. But looking at those dimensions it might be a performance shortbopard. That along with the narrowness will make it ultra sketchy for you to ride at first.
My advice get a used 6´4 ´but with a more newbie friendly template like the flyer or mx or m4 if you are thinking al merrick´s or a 6´4 19 2 3/8
if you are surfing ata beachbreak if not then learn with a short funboard or hybrid.

That's more of a semi-gun for biggish waves not really an all rounder board.

True that, what ALoha said. The tail is pretty narrow and extended, depending on the waves you'll be surfing... could be not so good for you. You want more width in the tail probably, unless you're hitting big steep waves. That will also make it easier to make the transition, more forgiving and easier to catch waves.
