Ok so ive been surfing for alittle while, now all the things, nearly perfected by duck dive cutback etc... and now i need a board!! I have been using minimals, longboards, short boards like 6 7's and some bics aswel! but I want a nice cheap one like up to 150 quid for a 6 3-6 7 board!

Whatcha think good idea etc?

yup you wont get a new shortboard for 150 quid. cept maybe a bic. but dont buy a bic you wont improve any more on it.

the good news is at your point of surfing second hand is the way to go anyway as you dont know exaclt what you are looking for. this means there would be no point splashing out on a shiney new board off the rack and you wouldnt know exactly what to tell a shaper you wanted.

look for something around the dimentions you mentioned but look for width and thickness too. you'll want it fairly wide and thick if youre just getting your first shortboard.

i got a chinese made board  for about $400 after the bag, leash and taxes. and my other locally shaped board for just over $500 after bag, leash, pad and taxes. so work just a bit harder and you could just buy a new one, if you look at the right places

yeah i think i'll get a second hand shortboard for the mean while but the thing is I live in the S.E coats of engfland and only get big swells in the winter, and there not even that big so It's going to be a challenge but im up for it!

^ well costco isn't around here, the board itself was i think $340, then with tax (f-ing man), the board bag, and leash it came to be right around 400. the head shaper at the shop went to china to inspect the factory and stuff, i guess to make sure he was getting something halfway decent. who knows, but it was cheaper, and the only one that was the size/fin setup i wanted without having to get a custom shaped board. couldn't justify it for a summer slop board...at least at this point in my life

you'd be surprised how shred-able the 7'3" bic is...and the 6'7" shortboard and the 5'10" 'fish' as well
