ive been surfing for 2-3years now on 4-5ft waves with my 7'6 funboard and im thinking about moving down to a shortboard to try to be more maneuverable on the waves and do more than just surf across the wave for 30ft before it crashes.
so my question is there more potential in my board that i cant see as far as doing new more advanced things that i dont know about, and if so how do i make it act more like a shortboard such as footwork and balance i should do to make those tight turns. or is it time to put aside the beginner board and move on to a shortboard?
btw im 6ft tall and 135pounds if that helps
thanks in advanced

You probably could do all kinds of things on a 7'6 funboard... but it'd be a lot easier on a smaller board.
You could drop down to a biggish short board (6'8, even 6'10) without too much trouble. Maybe shorter, but at 6' tall, I'd stick with a fairly large board for now.

I surf my girlfriends 7'6" quite a bit and I can pump down the line, do floaters, hit the lip, do cutbacks. It's all about trying out new manuvers, stances, walking your board, etc. I found it better to be more in the middle of the board while pumping down the line. Give it a try. So yes, there is a lot you can do with a board that size.

i have a 7'2 southpoint funboard and trust me its never going to be as manueverable as a shortboard infact i just bought a used 6'4 thruster today ($170) so i can move onto tricks BUT dont give up on ur funboard! i still havent.. infact i still take it out on small days and yes its possible to do some tricks like snaps and carving on a funboard but overall no a funboard isnt really designed to do radical shortboard manuevers
goodluck

you guys got any advice on what kinda board to buy for santa cruz waves???
like with a 6' 140lb body, what kinda short board is possible to do the duck dive with?
i read that people arent really having trouble switching to short boards, im just not sure what size would be good for me
