What size were thinking of getting? Basically, they are pretty much just like a wider version of a small shortboard but a bit fatter & low entry rocker & the nose chopped off. They don't take too much weight, so have been popular with groms. They have small fins and pretty much surf like you are on a tea tray, very skatey. You wouldn't want to take them out in hollow or steep waves but they do well in choppy onshore & rampy waves.
You can get them at silly prices now as Salomon stopped making them a few years back.

As for the noseless i have the 5'3, id prefer to take it out in slightly hollower waves as it needs a bit of grunt to get it going-but once you get speed into it the board really comes alive. up to about 4-5ft.
For onshore waves your better off getting a smallish fish to be honest to get around sections as the noseless doesnt like doing that. or you'll spend all day pumping the xxxxx out of a wave for nothing. Nick
