How to launch airs

I've been surfing for 4 years now and can surf alright. I can f/s floater, b/s floater, f/s reo, b/s reo, f/s cutback (weak but working on it), b/s cutback (way better than my f/s), and my most proudest accomplishment, f/s carving 360.

Anyway I can surf most spots around here in the 805 cept when it gets too big or when it's pitching top to bottom lol rare but happens at this spot I go to sometimes. I think I'm alright but I have been trying to launch airs for like 3 months and have done a few times. I pump like mad but when I look for the section and try to launch I only do sweet long floaters and never leave the wave.

I usually air my best on slower fat waves lol thats funny... cuz in surf videos guys are launching mostly off steep faster waves... I can sometimes really launch of the shorebreak, seems easier. Anyway, I have the speed but how can I launch f/s or b/s airs? Is it really like an ollie?

Sorry can't really tell you how to air as I can't really do them properly either but I'd say once you have the speed then its all practice and yes ollie a bit depending on wave shape. I've watched Dane Reynolds doing airs off nothing and he looks to be really exerting ollie type effort, and then you guys having trouble not getting airs off big steep sections without trying.

But I am really jealous that you can do f/s carving 360s as I've been trying for like 10yrs and can't really say I've pulled one properly. I often got all the way round to facing the beach again but never still been on a big enough wave to keep me going, or I've come off the back of the wave. Whats the secret?

go fast, stay high, hit lip, push and kick tail out, spot landing and land it.

oh and by the way how long did it take you guys to consistently start busting airs? I think I am getting the hang of it kinda but am getting kinda bummed that I'm blowing waves just to get air, whatever. So long how did it take you guys to air?

Id been surfing a few years before I did one. I havn't tried in ages....
Save your airs for the close out sctions for now. Nothing like finishing the wave off with a close out barrel, air, or off the top... Dont waste the waves trying to bust out one big move.
