picked it up today

matt adams 6'2''x19''x2 1/4''
bat tail quad fin
fcs m3 and m5 set up
double concave
= a very sick board

How did it peform!?? How did it compare to like the traditional thruster ?

only got it today man! not even waxed it yet!
going surfing thurs-sun so i'll let you know when i'm back.
but what i've heard and what i've been told is that i probably won't want to buy a thruster anytime soon! they're that good!
hold up well in big waves yet fly in mush!

haven't heard a bad thing about them so far, which is pretty reassuring, judgment day is coming so i'll do a write up on it for you guys.

would like one with 5 sets of fin plugs, so can switch between different number of fin setups

Welcome to the Adams family mate! I've got an Adams 6'2" thruster squash and really like it.
Fins look same as yours - M5s? I'm not sure how much I like the fins as I find them less forgiving sometimes in that they flex less than my old composite ones, which causes them to catch and then spin out a bit.

Really like the look of your board tho, been thinking about getting a quad so keep us posted. .

yeah i haven't heard a bad thing about his boards, plus shaping for his bro and russ winter kinda puts him up there with the best!
took it out today and surfed shoreham harbour, semi sheltered, that wind and rain was very antisocial!
but it held a good 3-4ft with a few bigger ones rolling through every now and then but not exactly a good day for it, tommorow's looking much better. had a few ok rides given the conditions but nothing spectacular.

one thing i do know is that it picks up so easily and is so fast, the waves were pretty slow and i kept finding myself getting too far ahead which was annoying but had i been surfing a faster wave it would've been in it's element!

the tail got loose when asked to and held up strong on the turns, so far so good. think i'd definately go a step up on the fins on a big day though, prob swapping the m5's to the back with some m7's or similar at the front.

hey im lookin into gettin a quad...i've heard you should get it an inch or 2 shorter than your shortbaord. is that what you did? i thought that the bigger the board the easier the wave is goin to be to get. i ride a 6'0 thruster and i was thinking of gettin a 6'2 quad is that a bad idea...i've never rode a quad

well the board i was using most before my quad was a 6'3 thruster, i initially wanted a 6'1'' quad but was advised by the shaper that the 6'2'' model of his has been refined and perfected, so i went for that and i'm not dissapointed but haven't really had a chance to give it a good going over yet! lack of rippable waves.

it's not really the bigger the easier in this case but it's the shape, well in my case anyway, my boards a little fuller in the nose with a medium rocker, an inch wider and a double concave with a large flick in the bat tail which is good for smaller mushy days with the aid of the drivey quad fin system.
but when it gets bigger thats when the fin system kicks as well in with that extra fin just digging in to the wave that much more kinda like a stabaliser!

there's many types of quads cos it's purely just another fin system, so you can have it in any shape board you want. i went for the bat tail etc because it's more suited to the type of waves i surf and to my style of surfing.
best thing to do is go to a shaper, they'll tell you exactly what size, shape and fins will be best for you and the waves you surf or will be using it in.

stretch do multiple variations starting from like a 5'2 i think upto about 6'4. good boards but expensive. if buying off the shelf try and get hold of a demo board first, but personally i reckon custom is the way forward for a really good board!

thanks bro that helped a lot. i was lookin at the firewire, and the al merrick small K with the quad. im kinda lookin at a off the shelf board cuz then i can get a discount so yea ill def have to check out those stretches. well hope you get some good waves soon, and ill able to test that board to the max

Lol that's a good thing to me because the local breaks I have in newport are fast! So looks like the bat tail quad will be perfect for me! Thanks for the advice! Carbon fiber bat tail quad here I come!

good stuff! watch seperate volume (oakley film) the nathan fletcher bit at the beggining is all on his signature stretch f4 board. shows abit of what they're capable of doing in not so perfect waves.
well i'm going to n.z on the 21st so hoping to score some there! take it easy bro

nice board allyoz.....i've had 3 boards shaped by matt and each one has been perfect for my ability and the southcoast mush....going down to see him next week to get a bat quad like yours..going for a 5'11" though....he\'s now started shaping the carbon fibre boards with ben skinner...a carbon quad is £500 which would be wasted on me as it's probably to high performance.

my mate bought one on friday but a 6'0x20''x2''1/2, he shapes them for a surf shop in rottingdean called filf. i've still not really had a GOOD chance to give it a good work out, just went to n.z for 3 weeks but we had no big swells at all, had some really punchy shacks on the taranaki surf highway though, held up really well, so i'm pretty stoked at that but i really want to surf some nice big open walls with it, as it's sooooo fast, all the points were crowded and small, raglan had a comp on which sucked! got some pics on magicseaweed of them.
carbon fibre, good lad, heard he was doing some with parabolic stringers but haven't seen anyone with an end result so don't know what's going on there as they'd be pretty sick.
met a lad in mount maunganui who worked in a new shop called quiver, and his parents own/owned LSD surfboards who matt used to shape for, pretty random.

I must say that after shaping my fish and making it a quad I am a believer. I want to make a bat-wing quad. Looking forward to experimenting with it.

all the recent talk of shaping boards on the forum has got me thinking about doing my own, but that could be a very long and dangerous road for me to go down! so think i'll stick to handing cash over to the shapers for now.....
