Yep, it gets busy, best to surf on low tide as high tide is rubbish. No need for a shortie either. Better wave is across the estuary, a short easy paddle and is usually less busy.

I am planning on taking a Surf trip with the dudes from Witch's Rock Camp, good idea? Besides the swim across the estuary, any other beaches I should check out?

Well in which case its your lucky day!
I stayed with them earlier this year and had an awesome time they will sort you out for surfing the area really well. The camp is very well run albeit a little bit cheesy with the evenings entertainment. Give my regards to tico hendrix. You'll know what i mean by the end of your holiday.
Also as ive been before they have given me a gift voucher that needs to be used by the end of this year which i won't be able to use.
It entitles myself or a friend to $150 off if you book before 31st dec this year.
