Thanks is advance for any help.

I live near a beach break in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The break can be very good, but a lot of the time is a a bit messy and small.

I ride a 6'4x19x2.5 and can make some okish turns in proper waves but when it's a bit small and crap, I am not very good at generating speed.

I have just seen a 6' Spider fish (2nd hand) for sale in my local shop for 200€, it looks quite nicely flat and wide and I thought it might be a solution for smaller waves.

What do you think?

Cheers

Emile

on smaller waves, learn to pump for speed even with your 6'4''. You'll be surprised how much better your surfing will improve when you learn to surf smaller waves with speed and control all the way down the line. The key to surfing smaller waves, even with your original board, is to stay light and constanly "pump" ( unweighting your board and weighting your board, transfering weight to the balls of your back foot if you're going frontside, and transfering weight back to the heel of your front foot. This motion will keep you going up and down the wave, increasing your speed. Try to also stay on top half of the wave and near the curl. That fish would help on smaller waves however. You can probably go 2-4 inches shorter than the 6'' spider for a fish. Hope this helps.
