I'm 6' and about 175 lb right now, I have a beginner shortboard that is 6'11" and it seems that I can't get up enough speed on smaller waves to catch. I'm wondering what the ideal weight would be for a shortboarder who is around 6'.

Not sure....but im 5,5 and about 115 pounds and both of my boards are 6'8".. it realy depends on the wave most of the time...I personaly didnt start out on a long board like most people told me, i just whent strait to a shortboard. maybe try renting a longer board and try it out and see

Mate I ride a 6'8 usually. Im getting a 2nd board -6'6 any day now. as the 6'8 feels a bit big at times...
Im 6' and about 220lb/100kg fairly lean.
I surf reasonably well/club contest level.
I wish I weighed 175!!! Small surf sucks when your 100kg

im 6ft and weigh 150lb and ride a 6'4.
its all bout the wave and the board you ride and skill level lots of heavy set guys make me feel humble when they carve small waves to death

I'm about 180lb and 5'11'' and i ride boards from 6'3 to 6'6.
I normally ride my 6'6''x21''x2 3/4 in 1-2ft stuff so you should be ok. Its all about practice. If your just starting out on that maybe get something a bit bigger.
