what's your technique for nice effective ( spraying water in the air) snaps?

Do you turn your body towards the bottom of wave first, then kick the board back down the face at the lip?

technique for a snap is to aim at the top of the wave. kick hard on the tail as you reach the lip and pull the board back down the face as quickly as you can.

Surferdude has it spot on.... aim high up the face, start your cut-back fast and big push with the back foot, aiming for some tail slide. You can even start with some smaller flicks when your pumping along the face of the wave, just to get the movement sussed...

The secret to good top turns is a solid bottom turn

. Its an art form so don't expect to pull it off straight away - practice makes perfect as is everything in surfing.

speed/momentum is crucial. Atempting to snap without any forward momentum is a waste of time. As broosta said a good bottom turn is the key. As you make your bottom turn drive to the top and shift your weight in a comitted way.
