I've been surfing now for over a year and never owned a shortboard, i;ve surfed a 5 11" a couple of times, and it seemed ok givin it was head high waves. My question is, is the Firewire (flexfire) at 5 11" to short for waves thigh to waist. For a guy 150-155 lbs. and height 5 7"..those are the typical waves in my area. and what is the general rule of thumb for finding the right height for a shortboard?
thanks in advanced!!

right then hmm 5'11 might be ok as long as its not stupidly thin. i have a 5'11 which is only 2" thick. its not as hard as you might think but im only about 130-135lbs ands 5'10

the deminsions of the Firewire,flexfire are......
Height= 5 11"
width= 18 1/4"
Thickness=2 1/8"
Tail type=Squash
for my height/weight, and the deminsions of this board, would this be ok to surf on 3-5 ft. waves? or should i go with a 6 ft or bigger?
thank you for all your help!!

well, normally the longer boards are thicker and wider (obviously not always) however, that board is pretty thin! i would go for a wider and thicked board if i were in your shoes although i don't know how you surf so can't really comment

personally i wouldnt want to be going much over head high waves on a board that small. sounds god for 2-4' but not too much bigger. id go a bit longer and a bit thicker. no neccessarily too much wider maybe 18 1/2".
