Hey its good you came and asked for the advice, listen to the comments, in my opinion Based on your weight and height start on a mal around 7'8'' there's no shame. If you pick it up quick you can drop board size as you progress. Second hand mals sell real good. Gain the confidence, n you'll be rippin.

ok. i was searchin craigs list for a longer board. found this awesome looking board for 200 bills. its a 7'6'' by howlett. you guys ever heard of em?

Hate to burst bubbles, but surfing is a really tough sport if you want to jump straight in at the preverbial deep end.

Maybe take some advice from the 3 pages of answers people have written?

Speedracer,

If I were you I'd take these guys advise, get a minimal....you'll have a lot more fun than trying to pop up on some twig of a shortboard.
