Final update: so tried them both with GX centers in back, and now both have a stomp pad and finally got to try them more-or-less side by side with the same equipment and under the same conditions.

They are very much the same except for two things, the white one being thinner is easier to duckdive but the green one being thicker is easier to paddle and get into waves.

Since the surf and perform about the same I think I will have to sell the white one, I was leaning on keeping the green one anyway because, well, it's much preetier, for sure I don't need two boards that perform the same. Plus, if I need to duckdive I probably should be using a shortboard anyway and save the fish for another day.

have you tried a hybrid fish TMT? i'm in the same boat as you and after testing and testing out my fish in stable surfs big to small i find that no matter what I'd probably like a little bit more turning abillity without the sacrifice of glide and catachabillity. i am 210 use a 6'6 by 21.5 by 3 inches bruce jones retro fish. I keep it as a twin cause i think mainly the thruster just destroyes the speed. What do you think of a hybrid fish? wave catchability mixed with performance?

I did, I have owned a 6'6", 6'4" and 6'1" hybrid in the past. To me the hybrids are just beefier shortboards, which I liked ok but did not love, it does make it easier but not much.

As far as retro's, I dig them, I have a 6'10 x 2 5/8" x 21 3/4 I use as my longboard, not the intention but catch as many waves, and also a 6'6 x 21.5 x 2 5/8 retro, love both.

The last iteration is actually a retro fish design, I just had the tail made as a half moon for a modern look.

Last update: sold the white one to a bud that dug it, kept the green one. I think I could easily go smaller but I think my foot placement will feel weird since I am used to longer board. For now I'm keeping her, if I damage it and replace it I think I will have it made 5'11", but for now I'm solid. The green one is going to have one more transformation, I'm going to have a center fin put in and try it as a bonzer, but later...

Decided to bring this thread back. I have since gone down in length but was trying to come up with something that would do what my fish does and for small waves and my Shortboard for normal waves

So, used same width a and thickness as my fish bur used the FireWire hydroshort my buddy lent me and put them together with my shaper and went with epoxy to keep it nimble.

It just arrived, 6’0 x 21 1/2 x 3 single to deep double concave, hard rails. Will report on how it rides

Final post: got a chance to try it today I. Waist high bumpy conditions at Ocean Beach. It had the float and paddle of my fish but with much tighter turns, had a blast.

The board is similar to the FireWire baked potato but with a thinner nose and tail, fun shape.

Si, if you need a small wave board, this is it, go visit your local shaper

Nice looking board. Reminds me of one that I was looking at for myself, pyzel gremlin. Popular board around here; not a bad shaper to have your design compared to!
