pumping has got to do with weight distribution.
Basically you want less weight when you are going up the face and then more when you are going down.
You can observe any type of sport. BMX gave me the idea because i used to ride.
to do this you want to "throw" your body upwards and bring the board up onto the face then push down to bring the board back down and repeat.
Just know that you want the less weight going up and more weight going down.
you can also imagine it like this.
Say you roll a light ball and a heavy ball up a hill at the same speed.
the light ball will go higher.
Drop a heavy ball and a light ball from the top of the hill, the heavy ball will go faster.
You want to be the light ball going up and the heavy ball going down.
sorry about all this talking about hte same thing, i was inspired

So I must master the art of pumping to do a cutback? Thanks for the info of being light on your feet while going up the wave and putting pressure when coming down to build speed. I got a question how do you make your self have less weight while going up the face?

You bend your knees in a crouch at the bottom of the face and boost/spring up the face stretching yourself out then bring your legs and feet upwards lastly, ending up sort of crouched again and higher up the face. You kind of drag the board up the face then put weight on in it to go down the face, and just repeat the process until you have the speed you need.
